So Liberty and I walked to the Farmers Market. I was snapped into a bad mood when I noticed Darrell broke my bird feeder:( He was trying to get Vins attention so he was throwing a newspaper at the windows. But WHY would he throw it at the window with the bird feeder on it? I cook for this guy all the time and sometimes he just comes off as a dink. I love him...but GRUMBLE!
Anyway, we get to the Farmers Market and its packed. With kids and dogs and people and food and yatta. Liberty starts acting like an excited puppy and I could barely control her. I hate scolding her in public because I'm afraid someone is going to think I'm being *cruel* to her, when I'm really just trying to get her to calm down and listen. She needs to get fixed soon, she wants to jump on every dog she sees and it makes people nervous. *sigh*
The first vegetable stand we got too had two young kids behind it who could care less about being there. And there was also this very small, frail woman with a sunk in face and wiry gray hair running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I asked her if she had any green tomatoes. She looked pissed off and said no. I then said, do you know where I can find any? I guess that really set her off and she rolled her eyes and said NO. I really wanted to call her a bitch and take one of her RED tomatoes and throw it in her face. But INSTEAD I bought some vegetables from her stand and walked off. One booth had beautiful handmade jewelry, I bought a butterfly hair clip for $3. Visited the pasta booth and bought some of the coolest pasta I have ever seen! Its called Calamarata. My mind is busy trying to think of how I want to prepare it. I know basil will be involved because I purchased a HUGE bunch of it today. Along with some radishes and a beautiful head of lettuce:D
I did not get my green tomatoes. But I DID get a green tomato *connection*
This old Italian man had a vegetable booth there and I asked him where I might find green tomatoes. He gave me his card and told me to come to his farm, which is right down the road and he would sell me some green tomatoes. I felt like it was a drug deal. This one guy I asked said "We don't pick our tomatoes until they're red" Whats with the green tomato hate?
Anyway, here is a picture of my bounty. Oh! I got raspberries and blueberries too!
They are so fresh, sweet tart and delicious!
