So this was my first time making Kolach bread, what an experience!!!!! But worth it. Notice that some of the bread in the picture is missing? Well thats because I couldnt wait to rip into it once it came out of the oven. The aroma filled the entire house and was torture for my empty belly the whole time it was cooking. I also made a 16 bean vegetable soup to go along with the Kolach.......yummah.
The middle was soft and fluffy, but not Wonderbread fluffy, and the egg wash helped create a lovely crust that was perfect for picking up carrots and other heavier veggies that were in the soup. We decided that Stout would be a good partner so we poured some Guinness and hit the mark. I did some research on the origin of the bread and there is an amazing story behind it. Won't go into details but if you are a bread lover and like a little history lesson, this is a good one. If anyone wants the recipe I will post it, but all you need to do is Google Kolach recipe, most of them are the same, cept some people use poppy seeds, or apricots, I stuck to the plain jane version since it was my first loaf, but now that I'm feeling a little braver I might add basil or rosemary to the next one!

I posted this in foodporn as well as vegetarian groups. jicac*
